Born out of the 1977 British punk scene, the Mekons progressed from a group of socialist art students with no musical skills to the prolific, raucous progeny of Hank Williams. Noted critic Lester Bangs called them “the most revolutionary group in the history of rock n roll.” (95 min)

♦ What the film captures, beautifully, is that the Mekons make great music because, together and apart, they’re so alive to the world around them. –The Village Voice
♦ The film is both a generous primer on the band, which grew out of the punk movement in Leeds, England, in 1977, and a celebration of its longevity. –The New York Times
